Western Union is a global leader in cross-border, cross-currency Money Transfer Services. Through its digital channels, Western Union helps people and businesses move money to more than 500,000 agent locations in over 200 countries and territories, and in more than 130 currencies.

Project background

I worked over a year redesigning the WU mobile app experience for the United States market. In 2016, the mobile app had 700K monthly transactions and over 3M new downloads.

Goals & Challenges

Not only was the mobile app dated visually but its implementation was as well. Redesigning the mobile app experience was a slow process due to legacy systems with limited scalability.

Solution

It clearly needed a fresh new look and usability improvements in the key steps of the flow.
I proposed different colors and a new iconography, and I optimized the information hierarchy to keep it clean, clear and simple.

Conclusion

2017 results summary:
— Returning customers went from 1.6M to 2.1M
— New downloads increased from 3M to 3.7M
— New registration raised from 5.4M to 6.5M
Transaction conversion grew from 47% to 58%
Monthly transactions went from 700K to 1.2M
